SPADE Enterprise Centre is a community based enterprise centre which was opened in 1990 in the converted St. Paul's Church at North King Street, a sector designated for urban renewal at that time.

The area is now undergoing total redevelopment and has changed radically.

The purpose of this initiative was to assist local unemployed people to successfully set up their own businesses. From the outset this initial venture proved a success and within a short time each of the original 25 independent workshop and office units within the building were let to a wide range of new businesses. These units range in size from 150ft² to 400ft² [14m² to 38m²].

The main building has been re-cabled with cat 5E wiring and we now have a direct fibre optic link to a 2MB DSL platform. This communication power will make these offices particularly attractive to the software and IT businesses.

Businesses at North King Street have included food manufacturers, engineering workshops, equipment distributors, marketing consultants among others.

The majority of businesses which commenced in the centre subsequently moved on to larger commercial premises - making the units available again to businesses with further job creation potential. There are now 130 new viable jobs existing within the centre and a similar number elsewhere in respect of companies which formed in the Centre and have sinced moved on.
