Graham Herterich – Local Food Hero

What a night it turned out to be for the amazing Graham Herterich at the Irish Restaurant Awards. Graham won the Local Food Hero Award for Leinster, as well as best newcomer for his most recent opening  - Ernie’s Café in Athy.

And this is all on top of running his busy bakery and shop in Rialto, constantly dreaming up  the most beautiful seasonal offerings, writing cookbooks, guest cheffing at events throughout the year, taking time out of his busy schedule to champion fellow Irish producers and products………. Oh, and making the best scones you will find (yes, he has won awards for those too).

Congratulations to you Graham – you truly are a food hero!!

Joy Of – Bringing the joy of West African flavours to Ireland

Eniola of Joy Of is on a mission to make authentic West African cooking effortless and joyful for home cooks across Ireland. Her richly flavoured Jollof sauces capture the depth, warmth, and vibrancy of traditional West African cuisine — without the hours of prep.

A proud TU Dublin Culinary graduate, Eniola credits the breadth of modules and hands‑on training there with giving her the confidence to create Joy Of and step into entrepreneurship. After working as a restaurant chef and later as a new product development chef, she channelled her experience into building a brand that celebrates heritage, flavour, and convenience.

Eniola is currently taking part in the Enterprise Ireland New Frontiers Programme, which she says is equipping her with the knowledge and tools to scale the business. With nationwide retail rollout underway and export plans on the horizon, Joy Of is gearing up for an exciting year of growth.

Versatile and vibrant, her sauces brighten everything from weeknight dinners to weekend feasts, adding layers of spice, comfort, and colour to any dish. To find out more, and get recipe inspiration, the links below are a great place to start.

Archaeology and Built Heritage

The team at SPADE-based Archaeology and Built Heritage (ABH) were delighted to receive an Archaeological Achievement Award in the Great Hall at Queen’s University Belfast in December. ABH took home the award in the category of ‘Public Dissemination or Presentation’ for their work curating the St. Anne’s Park Community Archaeology Programme, based at St. Anne’s Park, Raheny. The programme was launched in 2021 as a partnership under the Dublin City Strategic Heritage Plan and is a collaboration between Parks Biodiversity and Landscape Services and the Archaeology and Heritage Sections of Dublin City Council. The programme is partially funded by the Heritage Council and the Creative Ireland Programme.

The Archaeological Achievement Awards celebrate the work and projects of archaeologists from across the UK and Ireland, and are organised by the Council for British Archaeology. The St. Anne’s project is a diverse, annually evolving programme of activities and events centred on a community excavation of the former Guinness mansion of St Anne’s. It includes training programmes for transition year (TY) students and tour guides, educational tours for schools and public lectures, along with community-led post excavation and public outreach events.

According to the judging panel, the ‘project, impressed across the board through its work to greatly enhance the public understanding of the site. The project worked hard to place as few barriers as possible to participation and the outstanding use of multiple platforms to communicate and present, including engaging with diverse groups resulted in outstanding levels of EDI. An amazing and incredibly impressive project and a very worthy winner’.

Moira Services

Moira, who are based here at SPADE offices, have been monthly supporters of a missionary couple working in Africa, and this April, a church will be built in the Kenyan desert where these missionaries serve. Their work reaches women and children in vulnerable situations, as well as unreached tribes in the region.

Just last month, alongside the beginning of the church construction, they were able to send 1.5 tonnes of food to support the community there.

If anyone would like to get involved in supporting this mission, or find out more about Moira’s services and training, you can contact through the below links.
